Here is more on a story you will not see in mainstream media. The other day, SOFREP ran an article on a Navy SEAL who is being being detained in Venezuela over his alleged role in an assassination plot to overthrow the president of the country.

Yesterday, Venezuela announced the arrest of a fourth U.S. citizen in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate President Nicolás Maduro. This individual joins three other Americans, along with two Spaniards and a Czech citizen, who were arrested earlier in a purported CIA-backed plan to destabilize Venezuela. The arrest, made in Caracas, took place after the American was caught photographing sensitive locations, including oil facilities and military units. Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello claimed that the CIA, Spain’s intelligence agency, and organized crime groups were involved in orchestrating the assassination plot.

Venezuelan authorities have not released the name of the fourth American being held there.

Cabello highlighted that these foreign operatives had been under surveillance for some time, and he linked this new arrest to a broader campaign against the Venezuelan government. This incident follows a long-standing history of tensions between Venezuela and the United States, particularly after the controversial re-election of Maduro, which the opposition claims was fraudulent. U.S. officials, alongside Spain and the Czech Republic, have denied any involvement in the alleged plot and demanded more information from Venezuelan authorities.

Cabello noted that this was not this individual’s first visit to his country. In case you were wondering, the US currently has a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” warning issued regarding Venezuela. We withdrew all of our diplomatic personnel from the country and suspended the operations of the US Embassy there in March 2019. That, in itself, should speak volumes about how unsafe it is to go there. Part of the travel advisory that you can see below reads verbatim, “The Department has determined there is a high risk of wrongful detention of US nationals in Venezuela.” It goes on to note that US citizens have been detained for up to five years, and our government is not generally granted access to US citizens who are held prisoner there.

So, yeah, just don’t go.
