On Monday, Israel intensified its assault on the Gaza Strip, launching air, sea, and land attacks with no signs of easing. Shells pounded the Gaza neighborhoods of Sheikh Ajlin, Tal Al-Hawa, and Al-Sabra. Eyewitnesses reported Israeli army shelling in Al-Mughraqa and the refugee camp in Nuseirat.

Palestinian Red Crescent paramedics retrieved the bodies of five people. This includes three children, after Israeli airstrikes in the Al-Maghazi camp. In southern Gaza, Israeli gunships fired around Khan Yunis, while Apache helicopters attacked areas in Rafah.

Israeli Military Operations

The Israeli military confirmed ongoing operations across Gaza. They reported raids in Central Gaza and Rafah that resulted in the deaths of several militants.

Naval forces also targeted locations within Gaza. The continuous bombardment reflects the diminishing chances for a ceasefire or a hostage release agreement.

Breakdown of Ceasefire Talks

Hamas, backed by Iran, announced it was pulling out of ceasefire discussions. This decision came after an Israeli strike aimed at Hamas leader Mohammed Deif, which reportedly killed 92 people, according to the Gaza health ministry.

Deif’s status remains unclear, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stating there was “no certainty” about his condition, while a senior Hamas official claimed Deif was “well and directly overseeing” operations.

Hamas officials blamed Israeli “massacres” and their stance on negotiations for suspending talks.

However, they expressed willingness to resume discussions if Israel demonstrated sincerity in agreeing to a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal. Despite US President Joe Biden suggesting a deal was near, Hamas accused the US of supporting “genocide” by providing Israel with weapons considered as “internationally banned.”
