· blamed Ukrainians for Putin’s invasion, then suspended military aid, and without consultation with NATO allies…
· voted with the vicious dictatorships of North Korea and Belarus against condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine in the United Nations…
· supported the continuing attempt of Israel to ethnically cleanse Gaza — a war crime…
· began utterly unnecessary tariff wars with formerly friendly countries…
The above list, of course, is far longer and even more terrifying to those of us who revere the aspirations implied in the US Constitution and the necessity for checks and balances emplaced by the Founders to guard us from our worst impulses. These critically important guardrails appear to be rapidly collapsing before our eyes.
Mr. Trump’s disdain for the law is long-standing and deeply embedded in his political/business DNA. He hates honest judges because they serve as a brake on his often impulsive and sometimes criminal behavior — found guilty by a jury on 34 felony counts — a man who does not know the meaning of the word decency and is utterly shameless. His corruption is obvious and in-your-face. Regrettably, cowardly Republicans in Congress are afraid to call him out. This Oval Office occupant is nothing if not vengeful, attacking anyone who possesses the courage to tell the truth. However, Republican lawmakers have reason for concern. Mr. Trump’s more unsavory MAGA supporters are prone to violence in his name. The 6th of January insurrection serves as proof.
America was founded as a nation of laws. America championed the idea of equality around the globe. America defended Europe in World Wars I & II. America stood strong against Communism in the Cold War. America aided the sick and needy on multiple continents.
America once spoke out for human rights. America was sometimes compared to the mythological shining city on a hill. America has fallen so far I barely recognize her any longer.
Mr. Trump, supported by the MAGA faithful and a complicit Republican Party that I no longer recognize, is well into the process of betraying the very principles upon which the nation was established, and the oath that all presidents take to “…preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. There exists only one remedy under our laws, impeachment.
I wonder, will Congress find the courage to act in defense of the nation? If not, please note that democracies end in this way.

It’s an eye-opening account of a Green Beret’s second career at the United Nations.
And don’t just take my word for it, here is what Publishers Weekly had to say:
“In his humanitarian and peacekeeping missions for the United Nations he dealt with child soldiers, blood diamonds, a double hostage-taking, an invasion by brutal guerrillas, an emergency aerial evacuation, a desperate hostage recovery mission, tribal gunfights, refugee camp violence, suicide bombings, and institutional corruption. His UN career brought him face to face with the best and worst of human nature, and he shares it all here.”
