The encounter was anticipated, thanks to an OPSEC-SNAFU, turned public announcement that was leaked onto Facebook by Russian-backed separatist from the soi-disant Luhansk People’s Republic (LNR/LPR). The message stated that the LPR was preparing to transfer troops across the Donets river near the village of Shchastya. Ukrainian forces simply had to watch and wait.

The lone vehicle is reported to have been part of a reconnaissance element.
