U.S. Policy towards ISIS – Analysis

The ‘train and equip’ efforts of the United States in Iraq and Syria over the past few years have yielded mixed results. The CIA and special operations attempts to field rebel Syrian forces to fight ISIS have seen some embarrassing moments.

Akhmed One-Arm was detained following a series of raids executed by Turkish Special Forces on known Daesh (ISIS) collaborators and sympathizers in what is being described as the ‘Asian and European side of the city,’ of Istanbul. Update: Terrorist attack on cafe in Bangladesh

Update: At least nine men opened fire and took approximately 20 people hostage at the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The bakery is popular with expats and they could be the main targets of the attack. CNN stated that the gunmen are threw  grenades and exchanged gunfire with the police. NORSOF heading to Middle East

Quite a few years later I would once again encounter NORSOF – this time on my first Afghan tour in 2002-2003. I was once again favorably impressed with their capabilities in conducting strategic reconnaissance (SR) missions in austere environments. At the time NORSOF worked as part of the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force – Afghanistan (CJSOTF-A).
