Second Debate: What to expect for the Presidential Debate tonight

Second Debate: What to expect for the Presidential Debate tonight

It’s been a whirlwind week. I’ve never heard the word ‘pussy’ used so liberally on television before. Will that dominate the debate this evening? It is, after all, a town hall style debate. Will Anderson Cooper allow the public knowledge of Trump’s hot mic to go unanswered in their debate medium? I don’t know – […]

Hillary’s destructive leadership, a Navy SEAL turned media CEO’s perspective

Hillary’s destructive leadership, a Navy SEAL turned media CEO’s perspective

Hillary Clinton represents everything that is bad and needs to be changed about politics in America. She has made a career out of manipulation, character assassination (on the women who slept with her husband), and an orchestrated schizophrenic foreign policy (at best) that has contributed to chaos in the Middle East, which has resulted in […]

Critics exploded over Trump’s PTSD comments. But many veterans who support him don’t care.

Critics exploded over Trump’s PTSD comments. But many veterans who support him don’t care.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s comments Monday about veterans’ mental health set off a fiery debate about how post-traumatic stress should be discussed. But many veterans, including some who have suffered from the condition, say they continue to support him. Trump, speaking to a group of veterans in Reston, Va., was asked whether he would […]

The Presidential Debate, a show so good even the Taliban watched from a secret location

The Presidential Debate, a show so good even the Taliban watched from a secret location

According to NBC News, the Taliban watched the debate from a secret location in Afghanistan. “We were very interested in watching,” said Zabihullah Mujahid. The spokesman added that “Trump … [says] anything that comes to his tongue” and branded the Republican candidate as “non-serious.” He said the militant group’s leadership had hoped that Afghanistan would feature […]

Kurds won’t have friends as ISIL fades to the background

Kurds won’t have friends as ISIL fades to the background

The Kurds ought to be our focus in the Middle East. They’re legitimately our friends. At this point, it’s clear we don’t know the Middle East better than Middle Easterners. But, we do know who has performed and helped us in the past. We ought to give the Kurds some measure of solidarity, because once […]

First Presidential Debate, I don’t know who won, but our Foreign Policy lost

First Presidential Debate, I don’t know who won, but our Foreign Policy lost

The first presidential debate wasn’t about debating and more about fighting. The candidates didn’t critique each other’s policy details. We didn’t hear real foreign policy details. The debate was painful to watch. By the end, it was hard to decipher what was asked and who was supposed to answer. Because, neither candidate, I think, was […]

Presidential debate preliminaries: What to expect from the debate tonight

Presidential debate preliminaries: What to expect from the debate tonight

Tonight’s debate will likely be filled with vitriol between the candidates. This year feels unique because national security is such a hot topic for voters. Tonight is going to be a spectacle, for sure. But now more than ever, foreign policy is a part of the conversation. When George H.W. Bush ran years ago in […]

Clinton, Trump, Iraq, and Libya

Clinton, Trump, Iraq, and Libya

Over the last two months, the British public has been engaged in a debate about war that has been largely absent from the U.S. presidential election. On Wednesday, a parliamentary committee in the United Kingdom released a report condemning the government of former Prime Minister David Cameron for its role in the 2011 military intervention […]

This election reveals our less than civil and upset society

This election reveals our less than civil and upset society

I didn’t pay attention to politics very much as a kid. I remember that I liked George Bush senior. I remember the Bush v. Gore election my freshman year of high school, but it’s very vague. Nothing seems to matter as much until it was post 9/11. After that, everyone was afraid, unsure and felt […]

U.S. intelligence challenges for our next Commander-in-Chief

U.S. intelligence challenges for our next Commander-in-Chief

Why is this important? The intelligence community deals with such a large amount of data, you can’t always assume people who have the “need to know,” and who should have access to the data, have seen all of the available information on any topic. The challenge of the intelligence professional is to rapidly sort through all of the data in order to develop usable intelligence analysis, enabling decision makers and warfighters to make informed decisions. Depending on the scenario, these decisions sometimes have to be made within minutes. Sometimes seconds.

Think of someone shoving you into a room filled with thousands of puzzle pieces, and then telling you to put it together in a few hours.

SOFREP attends the Commander in Chief Forum with Clinton and Trump

The Commander in Chief forum, hosted by IAVA and broadcast by MSNBC, promised to be an event in which military veterans would be able to question presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton about veteran’s issues and military affairs.  Instead, it was a canned, staged event in which television host Matt Laurer did most of […]

Trump, Clinton rip each other over Iraq War, ISIS at military forum

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton slammed each other over the Iraq War and the fight against ISIS at a national security forum Wednesday, with the Republican nominee also appearing willing to allow undocumented immigrants wishing to serve in the military to remain in the U.S. Though Trump and Clinton did not appear onstage together at […]
