US Airstrikes in Nigeria Shock Villagers as Details Remain Unclear

Residents of the village of Jabo in northwestern Nigeria told reporters on Friday how they were gripped by fear and confusion after US airstrikes lit up the night sky, later confirmed as a joint US-Nigerian operation targeting an alleged Islamic State (IS) camp.

The strikes occurred late Thursday in Sokoto state, after US President Donald Trump announced a “powerful and deadly” attack against IS-linked forces, with Nigeria’s government confirming intelligence sharing and coordination.

Villagers reported intense heat, shaking homes, and fires, but said there were no known casualties, while authorities provided no details on targets or damage.
