F-16 And Cessna Collide Over South Carolina

This morning, just north of Charleston, SC, the sky became incredibly small for a Block 50 Lockheed-Martin F-16CJ and Cessna 150.

The two aircraft collided around 1100 local time and came down near Old Highway 52 at Lewisfield Plantation. The Viper’s wreckage can be seen strewn across the campground on Berkeley Country Club and in an adjacent wooded area, right next to the Cooper River. Initial reports have the C150 down in the river itself.

The pilot of the F-16, based at nearby Shaw Air Force Base, was able to eject and was transported by ground to a local hospital. There are no reports on the status of the Cessna’s pilot or occupants at this time. So far it appears that nobody on the ground was injured by any debris.
