Drinking Beer to Support Veterans? Yes, Please!

Drinking beer in a way that supports veterans and vets organizations? That’s something we can get behind!

D.G. Yuengling & Son, America’s oldest brewery, has come up with another way to support the nation’s veterans as part of its Stars & Stripes program. The brewer unveiled a new look for the 12- and 24-ounce cans that hold the brewery’s flagship beer, Yuengling Lager, on Tuesday.

The limited-edition cans feature a desert camouflage print and the logo of Team Red, White & Blue, a nonprofit organization that aims to connect veterans to their community through physical and social activity. Included on the can is a code through which beer drinkers can contribute to Team Red, White, and Blue (Team RWB) and help veterans.

Team RWB’s mission is to enrich veterans’ lives. More than a quarter-million active-duty servicemembers transition out of the military every year. Many of them suffer from a myriad of challenges including depression, isolation, obesity, and many other health issues, as well as feeling a lack of purpose.

“We are extremely honored to receive the generous support of Yuengling via their Stars & Stripes program and new camo cans,” said Mike Erwin, Team RWB’s executive director. “These donations will enable us to significantly expand our programs and impact the health and wellness of our nation’s veterans.”

Yuengling’s Initiatives In Support of Veterans

Yuengling has long been a supporter of veterans and veterans issues. Its efforts have included partnerships with Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude forges strong bonds between citizens, the military, and first responders through volunteer service projects, acts of gratitude, and other engagements. It has also partnered with the VFW and TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors). Furthermore, Yuengling created the Lagers for Heroes program.

“As America’s Oldest Brewery, we are forever in awe of the brave and dedicated men and women who have made tremendous sacrifices to protect our country’s freedom, honor, and independence,” said Jennifer Yuengling, the brewery’s vice president of operations and sixth-generation brewer.

“Our limited-edition Lager cans are a part of our continued commitment to helping Team RWB build onto their invaluable resources and support services for America’s veterans.”

Yuengling makes a delightful lager (and this is coming from pretty much a non-beer drinker). Its new limited edition desert camo cans will be available in all 22 states that carry the beer from Pennsylvania, where it is brewed, to Florida. The cans will immediately become collectors’ items.

Country music star Lee Brice will also be working in conjunction with Yuengling and Team RWB. The singer will be conducting meet and greets with fans and benefit performances.

“It’s been a challenging year for many military men and women and so I’m thrilled to join Yuengling in rolling out a limited-edition pack that will benefit Team RWB,” Brice said in a statement. “Supporting our troops and saluting them with an ice-cold LAGER seems like a natural fit. Thanks for all you do to protect us!”

Drinking beer to support veterans sounds like something we can all back. And yes, somewhere the sun is over the yardarm.
