The FLNC (Fronte di Liberazione Naziunale Corsu) is an armed group that advocates independence of the Mediterranean island of Corsica – separate from the French state.
During the early 2000s, the FLNC in Corsica had been divided into the FLNC-UC, the FLNC-1976, and the FLNC-22 October.
In its statement, the FLNC-22 urged Muslims to unite, and asked its community leaders to “take a stand against radical Islam” and “alert us to any excesses you notice among disillusioned youths inclined towards extremism”.
“If a tragedy were to happen it [the French government] would bear substantial share of responsibility because it knows who the radicals Islamists are in Corsica…“
Addressing Daesh terrorists, the group said:
“You should know that any attack against our people would trigger a determined response, without any qualms… The Salafists clearly want to establish the Daesh (IS) policy among us, and we’re prepared for that.”
In May 2016, the FLNC-22 announced in a statement that they will “end military operations” by October 2016 – instead choosing to allow exclusively diplomatic efforts to secure independence.
