NCIS has recently put out the official word that they are investigating and searching for stolen military technology, all of which is ITAR (International Traffic In Arms Regulations) restricted and not for civilian use.  The devices in question were fielded under a counter-IED initiative which was budgeted at 750 million dollars and distributed 32,000 pieces of equipment.  It appears that a full inventory of what is missing has not been concluded by the US Navy, but given the scope of the investigation we can infer that it must be a fairly large number of devices.  Investigators were tipped off when the devices, including advanced optics, thermals, and laser designators, were posted for sale on websites such as ebay and Craig’s List.

The following is a list of devices that are known to be missing:

OASYS-BAE Systems – Universal Thermal Monocular (UTM) “StalkIR”

Vectronix Long Range Thermal Video (LRTV)

Pocket Laser Range Finder (PLRF)

Universal Thermal Clip-on (UTC)

OASYS Micro-Thermal Mono-Sight “SkeetIR”

Universal Thermal Binocular (UTB)

Clip-on Night Vision Device-Thermal (CNVD-T)
