It has recently been confirmed that 126 different military bases have water sources that are contaminated by perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) and apparently have been for some time.
These contaminants are primarily used as repellents (water, grease) and are known to cause cancer and birth defects even in only trace amounts. The military primarily uses it in flame retardant foam used to combat fires in aircraft.
Needless to say, the Environmental Protection Agency has been all over the investigation. A big high five for the military providing yet another means for the Veterans Affairs office to potentially screw over prior service members. For many of the bases found to be exposed, the contamination was found to be concentrated in direct drinking water sources.
