The Pic of the Day: China’s Moon sprouts only lasted a day

On January 12, China announced that cotton seeds aboard its Chang’e 4 lunar lander had sprouted — marking a historic, but short lived, first. The seedling promptly died that night, as the biosphere failed to insulate the experiment from the intense cold.
