SEAL candidates go through the Special Operations Forces Cold Weather Maritime Training Facility (SOFCWMTF) during the SEAL Qualification Training (SQT) course, which comes immediately after the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) selection process. They spend approximately a month in Alaska learning about arctic warfare, winter survival, and how to apply their skills in a winter environment.

SOFCWMTF is operated the Naval Special Warfare Cold Weather Detachment Kodiak (NSWCDC-K)on Kodiak Island, Alaska.
