The soldier did not know she was pregnant. The baby was born five weeks premature. Both mother and child are well. The Brits have sent almost 200 pregnant troops home from Afghanistan. This is the first time a UK soldier has given birth to a baby in Afghanistan.
She had been deployed with the 12th Mechanised Brigade since March, but two days ago complained of severe stomach pains.
