U.S. Apache Helicopters Strike Daesh (ISIS,) for First Time in Iraq

US Apache helicopters have hit a Daesh (ISIS) target for the first time in Iraq, the Pentagon said Monday.

“US Apache helicopters conducted the first strike against a Daesh target in Iraq in support of Iraqi Security Forces in the Tigris River Valley June 12,” Defense Department spokesman Christopher Sherwood said, using an Arabic abbreviation for IS. –

Daesh, depending on how it is conjugated in Arabic, it can mean anything from ‘to trample down and crush’ to ‘a bigot who imposes his view on others. A pejorative term for ISIS in Arabic: al-Dawla al-Islamiya fi al-Iraq wa al-Sham, Daesh.
