The US Coast Guard rescued eight boaters that had run aground off the coast of South Carolina.

Coast Guard Sector Charleston Command Center watch-standers were notified at 2:40 a.m. via 911 dispatch that a center-console boat had run aground on a sandbar.

A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew launched and arrived on scene at 3:50 a.m. Rescue crews hoisted four boaters and transported them to Mount Pleasant Regional Airport. The rescue crew later returned to hoist the four remaining boaters.
