On the morning of August 11, a Block 50 F-16CJ from the 480th Fighter Squadron, the Warhawks, crashed at 9:38AM local time while on a training mission to the US Army Garrison Bavaria, a sprawling base near Grafenwoehr featuring air-to-ground ranges.

According to the 52nd Fighter Wing at Spangdahlem Air Base, the jet was carrying six 25-pound training munitions, along with fuel tanks, all of which were jettisoned in a non-populated area prior to the crash.

The 52nd Fighter Wing reports that the pilot ejected safely and is being treated at a local hospital.

We’ll bring you more information as it becomes available, but it is certainly a relief to know that our Warhawk Viper driver is safely back on deck.
