Today, our ex-Green Berets discuss the reactions of the people around them when they first announced they wanted to join Special Forces. Jack Murphy recalls sitting down with his high school guidance counselor and telling her he wanted to join the Army, he wanted to be in special operations and he wanted to be a sniper. She encouraged him to follow his dreams, and he did exactly that.
The conversation then turned to why the men did not want to join the officer ranks. The short answer is that officers get pulled out of the field after a relatively short amount of time and are relegated to administrative duties. Most pipe hitters don’t savor administrative duties.
Sit back, relax, and spend some time with our Green Berets Inside the Team Room.
