What Was Southern Griffin 23?

“Southern Griffin 23” is the Utti Jaeger Regiment’s main spring exercise, and it took place in Southern Finland from May 10 to 21, 2023. The exercise involved approximately 1,150 personnel, including representatives from the Finnish Defence Forces, various agencies, and international partners from the U.S.A. and Europe. Its primary goal is to enhance the joint operational capabilities and interoperability of Finnish special forces and aviation units in collaboration with other agencies and international allies. Key assets used in the exercise include NH90 and MD500 helicopters, France’s Tiger, Caracal, Gazelle, and Cougar helicopters, and U.S. aircraft like the U-28A Draco and MC-130J Commando II.
