In today’s episode, Dick tells us about how he took his operators and turned them into pilots. That’s right, enlisted pilots. He leased civilian aircraft, modified them, and ran his pilots through stunt school.  As you can probably imagine, this rubbed some individuals the wrong way. The way Dick figured it, he needed a quick way to get to the scene of a hijacking situation he’d be expected to remedy, and who better to get him there than his own men.  It was all about being a self-contained, covert unit.

Fun Fact: In the early days, SEAL Team Six’s budget for ammunition was more than that of the entire US Marine Corps.
