The Shark-M, an evolution of the earlier Shark-D, takes these capabilities to the next level, offering Ukrainian forces an even more effective tool for gathering intelligence and guiding strike drones.
Over time, the Shark platform has undergone several enhancements to meet the evolving demands of modern warfare, particularly in Ukraine’s fight against Russia’s aggressive military actions.
Technical Specifications and Upgrades
The SHARK-M UAV boasts impressive technical specifications that make it a formidable asset on the battlefield.
The drone features a 3.4-meter (11-foot) wingspan and is equipped with a powerful camera system that can rotate 360 degrees, providing unparalleled coverage for reconnaissance operations.
One of the most significant upgrades is its extended flight range—up to 420 kilometers (261 miles)—coupled with an extended flight duration of up to seven hours. This was made possible by incorporating new batteries that have a 170 percent greater capacity than those used in previous models.

In addition to its extended range, the SHARK-M features an upgraded radio modem and antenna system, which doubles its communication radius to 180 kilometers (112 miles).
This enhancement is crucial for operating in contested environments, allowing the drone to stay out of the reach of enemy weapons while maintaining a strong communication link with its operators.
The UAV is designed to operate in various weather conditions, both day and night, with its sensors capable of detecting targets up to 35 kilometers (22 miles) away during the day and 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) at night.
The new SHARK-M model also features advanced hardware and software solutions that ensure stable operation even in the face of GPS spoofing or attempts to intercept control signals—a key advantage in modern warfare, where electronic warfare plays an increasing role.
Enhanced Operational Role
The SHARK-M UAV is not just a reconnaissance tool; it also plays a crucial role in guiding strike drones and coordinating attacks.
In a modern battlefield where precision is critical, the SHARK-M’s ability to serve as a signal repeater for strike drones enables Ukrainian forces to deliver pinpoint strikes, even in areas with limited visibility or communication.
Once a target is located by the SHARK-M, strike drones can be deployed to neutralize the target, with the SHARK-M continuing to guide the attack and ensure its success. This dual-function capability significantly enhances the Ukrainian military’s ability to conduct effective and precise strikes, making the SHARK-M a force multiplier on the battlefield.
One of the more revolutionary features of the SHARK-M is its ability to function as both a reconnaissance platform and a strike coordinator, ensuring that intelligence gathered in real time can be immediately acted upon.

The system’s integration of reconnaissance and strike capabilities removes the delays that often occur in coordinating between different units, providing a seamless flow from intelligence gathering to target neutralization.
Ease of Use and Control
Despite its advanced capabilities, the SHARK-M is designed to be user-friendly.
Ukrspecsystems has ensured that the infrastructure and software for the new UAV remain compatible with earlier Shark models, meaning that existing crews can easily transition to the new system without extensive retraining. This practicality is essential for ensuring that the Ukrainian military can deploy the SHARK-M quickly and effectively, without wasting valuable time on training.

Furthermore, the SHARK-M is equipped with a remote piloting system that enhances its safety and operational flexibility.
The miniature remote control terminal allows the UAV to take off and land safely away from the main base, improving security and reducing the risk to operators.
The system can also operate in a “carousel” format, where multiple UAVs are rotated to maintain continuous reconnaissance and strike operations without interruption.
