As China continues to posture during Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, many are looking at Gen. Mark Milley’s previous warnings about China.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi started her Asian tour yesterday and China’s been on edge since.
“The frequent provocations and shows by the United States fully demonstrate that the United States is a destroyer of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and a maker of security risks in the Taiwan Strait,” said Colonel Shi Yi in a statement, adding that “The theater troops maintain high alert at all times and resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
“We’ve seen an alarming increase in the number of unsafe aerial intercepts and confrontations at sea by PLA aircraft and vessels,” U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secretary Lloyd Austin said. He added that the occurrence made by the Chinese side “should worry us all.”
“The proposed sale will contribute to the sustainment of the recipient’s vehicles, small arms, combat weapon systems, and logistical support items, enhancing its ability to meet current and future threats,” Pentagon said.
Chinese aggression continues as a sortie of 29 Chinese military aircraft was spotted flying in Taiwan’s Air Defense Zone (ADIZ) on Tuesday.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has reportedly signed a legal order that operationalizes a trial of “military operations” beyond Chinese borders, copying language from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
China has conducted a massive joint military exercise in the areas surrounding the island of Taiwan, further heightening tensions in Asia.
“Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, a fact and status quo that no one can change,” Chinese Minister of National Defense General Wei Fenghe said.
In anticipation of a possible invasion from Beijing, Taiwan has released its first war survival handbook to help prepare the public for any military confrontation with China.
