Topping the news out of Afghanistan as of late is the rampant sexual abuse of young children committed by the U.S.-trained Afghan militia over the past four years. A New York Times article reported that U.S. forces have been instructed not to intervene, as this is considered a “matter of domestic Afghan criminal law.”
In addition, a few Special Forces soldiers have been reprimanded, one of which is being forcibly retired by the U.S. Army. This policy was put in place to ensure the Americans maintain a good working relationship with their Afghan counterparts, fearing that meddling in this taboo cultural practice will unravel said relationship.
This must be a new addition to the “win the hearts and minds” policy brought to you by “hear no evil, see no evil.” The Department of Defense’s (DOD) fear of undermining local authority be damned, this type of “authority” shouldn’t come from any type of leadership position—not in Afghanistan, Iraq, or anywhere on this planet.
No doubt our primary concern is to build, train, and guide. By looking the other way, these walking piles of fecal matter will destroy everything that was paid for in blood over the course of America’s longest war.
It might be, might be one thing if this was happening in some far-off corner by some sex-starved lone nutbag, well beyond the military’s sphere of influence, but it was happening on our bases and often! Policy or not, if someone ran up and shot this boy with an AK-47, there would be a pile of U.S. Marines on his back. This type of ongoing abuse of the next generation of the Afghan population by Western-backed leaders of the militias who should be striving to be all they can be will only lead to thousands of ready-made terrorists for us to open Christmas morning, 2025.
The military never had a problem shoving their big noses into every aspect of our lives as soldiers, so why would they stop here? They need to put their big-boy pants on, much like the pair of medal-deserving special operators—Capt. Quinn and SFC Martland (whaddya say, let’s create a whole new badge: the Pedo-Ass-Kicking Badge/PAK-B) did—and grab every last one of these pedo, sick fucking assholes and lock them up. After the collection process, we can start a brand new training session for the militia: the live-fire/live-sicko range. I guarantee the Afghans and the world would thank us…finally.
Mission accomplished.

All bullshitting aside, this is a huge slap in the face to the incredibly selfless special operators risking life, limb, and their minds for those who can’t defend themselves. De Oppresso Liber roughly translates to “To Free the Oppressed,” and the actions of both Capt. Quinn and SFC Martland reflected exactly that—liberation from oppression. Considering the official stance of the DOD on this issue, perhaps there should be the addition of an asterisk to this motto: *restrictions apply.
