A small business jet crashed while trying to land at Teterboro Airport killing both crew members on the aircraft. The Learjet 35 was carrying no other passengers when it went down approximately a quarter mile from the runway causing a fire. No one on the ground was reported injured.

Emergency responders worked for more than an hour to extinguish the blaze, which left a smoldering wreckage of cars in a parking lot.

The plane was registered in Billings, Montana, to a company called A&C Big Sky Aviation, which has a residential address. The owners of the residence are Daniel and Julane Wells. There was no answer at their residence Monday night.

Mayor Craig Lahullier said all town employees already had left for the day before the plane crashed next to its Department of Public Works building. “I tell ya, it’s a miracle,” he said. “Thank God the guys were out of there, that’s all I can say.” – AP

The cause of the accident is not known at this time but weather reports in the area had warned of strong winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour shortly before the aircraft crashed.
