How To Nearly Die While Photographing Airplanes!

FighterSweep Fans, there’s absolutely no denying our passion for airplanes. We’re constantly looking for new and exciting things to share with you, and while flying and working around airplanes does bring a certain amount of peril, there is still a fine line between “acceptable risk” and “—-ing stupid.”

So dig if you will, this picture…which we’ll call Exhibit A. It shows just how close this individual was to losing his life by being splattered all over the underside of a Cessna 172 Skyhawk on its steep approach to landing at Gustaf III airport. Our photographers and videographers are among the very best in the world in this industry, and while we will push the envelope on occasion to get a particular shot, at no time would any of us do anything quite this stupid around airplanes.

When people say you should do “anything” to get the shot, getting decapitated or losing a hand might not be what they had in mind. But that’s what one tourist almost did while trying to get a photo of a plane landing at the dangerous St. Bart’s airport.

The Gustaf III airport on the island of St. Bart’s is known for how incredibly close planes get to the road on approach. In some cases, you could reach up and touch them… which is probably why it’s considered the third most dangerous airport in the world.

The 360° video [above] shows the incredibly close call that happened earlier this week when a tourist in search of the perfect picture of an approaching plane nearly lost his head in the process.

Ladies and gentlemen, we’re all about getting spectacular images of aircraft in all phases of flight, but please, make smart choices and safe yourselves from permanent, debilitating injury or even death by trying to get the shot. It just isn’t worth it.
