Army Aviation rescues 183 civilians from a nursing home in Texas

PORT ARTHUR, Texas – America’s Army Reserve dispatched crews from the C. Company 7-158th General Support Aviation Battalion, Fort Carson Colarado to rescue 183 local residents and facility staff from Lake Arthur Place and Cypress Glenn Nursing home.

Army Reserve Soldiers launched 18 lifts consisting of Chinook and Blackhawk aircraft to transport residents safely to Conroe, Texas.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas – America’s Army Reserve dispatched crews from the C. Company 7-158th General Support Aviation Battalion, Fort Carson Colarado to rescue 183 local residents and facility staff from Lake Arthur Place and Cypress Glenn Nursing home.

Army Reserve Soldiers launched 18 lifts consisting of Chinook and Blackhawk aircraft to transport residents safely to Conroe, Texas.

Jimmy Blanchard, Emergency Medical Task Force 6 Supervisor sent the initial request to support both locations.  Of the 183 rescues, 92 residents were in wheelchairs, 71 on stretchers and 20 required ambulatory support.

With many roads unpassable by rising waters, Army Reserve Aviation has been vital in assisting local authorities with rescue efforts.

Army Reserve Aviation, utilizing the Army Reserve’s Immediate Response Authority, per the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act, while providing trained and ready Army Reserve Soldiers for relief efforts.
