On Sunday afternoon, armed law enforcement officers shot and killed a man who was stabbing people on the streets of south London.
The Metropolitan Police, which is responsible for London, declared the event as a terrorist-related incident.
According to British law enforcement officials, at least two people were wounded during the attack (excluding the perpetrator). But now the incident has been fully contained and there are no additional attacks.
“A man has been shot by armed officers in Streatham. At this stage, it is believed a number of people have been stabbed. The circumstances are being assessed; the incident has been declared as terrorist-related,” said the Metropolitan Police on its Twitter account.
Although the Metropolitan Police hasn’t verified something yet, it seems that the attacker was carrying something akin to a suicide vest. Armed officers shot the man in front of a pharmacy on Streatham High Road. As reinforcements came, the officers approached the dead suspect, only to back away quickly and order bystanders to clear-off.

This attack comes a few months after another terrorist went on a stabbing spree on the London Bridge, killing two bystanders before he was subdued first by civilians and then shot dead by armed officers.
The attack comes two days after the United Kingdom left the European Union following four years of negotiations.
The British Home Secretary Priti Patel said in a tweet that “I am being kept updated by the Metropolitan Police on this afternoon’s incident in Streatham, which has been declared terrorist-related. My first thoughts are with the victims, our brave police and emergency services and their families.”
Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, said that “terrorists seek to divide us and to destroy our way of life — here in London we will never let them succeed.”
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
Update: According to reports, three people have been injured, and one is in critical condition. The suspect had been under surveillance by British intelligence.
