The Army Black Knights face the Colgate Raiders, Oct. 15, at Michie Stadium, United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. The Army team will wear Ivy leaves on their helmets, representing the 4th Infantry Division as they play. The logo and nickname of “Ivy” derived from the Roman numeral “IV.”
Since Dec. 10, 1917, the Ivy Division repeatedly answers the call in defense of our nation. We fought in WWI, WWII, the Cold War, the Vietnam War, and the War on Terror. We stormed the beaches of Normandy during D-Day and aided in the capture of Saddam Hussein. Originating in Camp Greene, North Carolina, the Ivy Division always remains dynamic and agile. Nestled at the base of the Cheyenne Mountain, the 4th Infantry Division now calls Fort Carson, Colorado, home. Our Soldiers train alongside Olympians at altitudes of 6,000 feet, and are fit, motivated and disciplined. We ensure tomorrow’s Army will be better than today’s for future generations. No other division can converge, close on the enemy, or consolidate gains faster. With our lethal combination of light, Stryker and mechanized vehicles, the Ivy Division is the first to the fight. We stand ready to deploy, fight, and win our Nation’s wars. Ivy Soldiers believe in themselves, their teammates, and their leaders.
