The Pic of the Day: USS Wasp enters South China Sea with unprecedented number of F-35Bs

F-35B Lightning II aircraft, assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 121, are secured to the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) in the South China Sea during a replenishment-at-sea as part of Exercise Balikatan April 5, 2019.

Exercise Balikatan, now in its 35th iteration, is an annual United States–Philippine military training exercise focused on a variety of missions, including humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, counterterrorism, and other combined military operations. Balikatan is Tagalog phrase which means “shoulder-to-shoulder.”
