Russia Learning US SOF Lessons, Stands Up Russian JSOC

It’s being reported that after watching our experiences over the last three decades, the Russians are adopting our approach to SOF. They have stood up the Силы специальных операций or ССО – in English this translates to “Forces Special Operations.” The new organization will at first include a special forces brigade, a training center and […]

Stolen Valor Law II Passes House

A new ‘Stolen Valor’ law was passed Monday in the House of Representatives by a resounding 390 to 3 votes. The law was introduced by Rep. Joe Heck (R-Nevada). To become an official law, it needs to be passed by the Senate and then signed by the President. This law would replace the 2006 Stolen […]

What’s Been ‘Camouflaged’ About Camouflaged Uniforms?

After four long years, the Army is soon to announce its next camo pattern. It’ll likely look like a bigger version of MARPAT, but the decision is being closely guarded. Soldier Systems Daily (SSD) is doing an excellent job keeping up on that issue, but before the decision comes out and the screaming starts, I […]

Read an outstanding article in Foreign Policy on the subject and tweeted the “news” the other day. I missed the news the first time around, and learned I wasn’t the only one, so I thought SOFREP readers might also be interested. Imad Mughniyeh (aka “Muggie) is arguably the 2nd most lethal terrorist in our history. […]

Not Mirandizing Terrorists? Slippery slope…

I’m not a shrinking violet when it comes to dealing with terrorists. That said, I understand that we have a Constitution, and it needs to be followed and protected. We aren’t doing that. I have problems with how we’re handling the surviving Boston Marathon terrorist. He’s not getting Mirandized because of a potential “threat to […]

Tora Bora, A Mountain Too Far

Tora Bora. We didn’t get Bin Laden because we couldn’t. WHAT!!! I thought we didn’t get Bin Laden because we mistakenly trusted the Afghans to do what they had promised, and we ignored very competent men on the ground who wanted to commit available US forces to the rear of Tora Bora to block Bin […]

What Do You Do If Caught In a Bombing?

As the attack in Boston is being addressed I’m sure many reader’s hearts and prayers are with the victims and their families. Tragic. I have my thoughts about the five “W’s,” but at this early juncture speculation is inappropriate. There are details coming out as I type. There will be more details and much discussion […]
