Israeli police confirmed on Saturday that a Special Forces officer succumbed to injuries sustained during an operation aimed at rescuing four hostages in the Gaza Strip.
“With great sorrow, the Israel Police announce the death in action of Chief Inspector Arnon Zamora, a commander and tactical operator with the Yamam (National Police Counter-Terrorism Unit), who was critically wounded in this morning’s successful hostage rescue operation in Gaza,” police posted on X.
The Israeli military reported the successful extraction of four hostages from central Gaza following a targeted operation.

The freed hostages have been identified as Noa Argamani, 25; Andrey Kozlov, 27; Shlomi Ziv, 40; and Almog Meir, 21.
The army noted that the hostages were discovered in two separate locations and were in good health.
Since a Hamas attack on October 7, Israel has intensified its offensive in Gaza despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Local health authorities report that over 36,700 Palestinians, primarily women and children, have been killed in Gaza, with more than 83,500 injured.
Eight months into the conflict, much of Gaza lies in ruins, suffering under a severe blockade limiting access to food, clean water, and medicine.
Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which recently ordered an immediate halt to operations in Rafah. Israel has repeatedly denied this allegation.
