U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Joan Perez-Resendiz, a munitions support equipment maintenance technician assigned to the 36th Munitions Squadron, was recognized as the 36th Wing’s Team Andersen Linebacker of the Week, at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, Nov. 21, 2022.
The Team Andersen Linebacker of the Week recognizes outstanding enlisted, officer, civilian and total force personnel who have had an impact on achieving Team Andersen’s mission, vision and priorities.
As a munitions support equipment maintenance technician, Perez-Resendiz synchronizes maintenance actions for $5.5 million daily use and War Reserve Material munitions handling equipment. He produces weekly and quarterly maintenance schedules for a 14 member team and ensures timely execution of quarterly, semi-annual, annual and 5-year periodic inspections for 128 munitions trailers and 37 accessories. Perez-Resendiz also oversees five additional duties to include tool accountability, the safe disposal of hazardous waste and work center safety.

Since arriving at Andersen AFB in 2021, Perez-Resendiz has conducted 158 inspections and repaired 87 major discrepancies. He also prepared 96 assets for corrosion control preventing a 20% loss in WRM readiness. His stellar management of over 3,000 shop-stock items ensured the timely repair of 345 discrepancies, correcting deficiencies for the Pacific Air Forces largest WRM fleet.
“Being a maintenance troop, the comradery that we have here is like no other,” said Perez-Resendiz.
Additionally, Perez-Resendiz was instrumental to the reorganization of his sections 60,000 square foot pad by stacking 33 trailers, terminating the need for 429 inspections. This saved 4,000 man hours annually and cut WRM trailer maintenance preparation by 70%. The equipment maintained by Perez-Resendiz is used by multiple nations, sister service and U.S. Air Force units. His equipment transported 24 tactical missiles and was key to the success of Dynamic Force Employment 22-2 as well as supplying munitions for multiple Bomber Task Force missions.

“When I got here, there were a lot of seasoned Airmen that knew how to get everything done quickly and efficiently,” said Perez-Resendiz. “ It really helps seeing that level of work ethic.”
The term Linebacker is rooted deep within Team Andersen’s history. Operation Linebacker II took place on Dec. 18, 1972, and was the largest number of heavy bomber strikes launched by the U.S. Air Force since the end of World War II. During the operation, B-52s from Andersen flew round-the-clock bombing missions over North Vietnam to destroy major targets in Hanoi and Haiphong in an effort to bring the Democratic Republic of Vietnam back to negotiations.
