An airman from Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, drowned Saturday while free-diving, the base announced in a statement.
Airman 1st Class Christopher O’Brien, 25, died near Ginnie Springs, Florida, a popular outdoor spot about 100 miles southwest of the base.
Authorities believe the death was an accident and do not suspect foul play. O’Brien was off duty at the time, a base spokesman said.
“It is a great loss to us all when we lose a member of our Air Force family. Team Moody and I extend our deepest condolences and prayers to family and friends during this difficult time,” said Col. Thomas Kunkel, the 23rd Wing commander.
