US Coast Guard Ensign Alex Hamel, a landing signals officer aboard the national security cutter USCGC Waesche (WMSL 751), directs a Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force SH-60K Seahawk helicopter at takeoff during a search and rescue exercise in the Pacific Ocean July 11, 2014, as part of Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2014. RIMPAC is a U.S. Pacific Fleet-hosted biennial multinational maritime exercise designed to foster and sustain international cooperation on the security of the world’s oceans.
