An Israeli Air Force Pilot was killed Wednesday evening in an F-16I crash, according to The Jerusalem Post. The navigator in the two-seater fighter jet was able to safely eject from the aircraft and only sustained minor injuries. The pilot attempted to eject as well, but was killed during the ejection, according to Defense News.
The F-16I was returning from an air strike on the Gaza Strip when it caught fire while landing at Ramon Air Force Base in the Negev region of southern Israel. Israeli fighters were dispatched to conduct air strikes after a missile was launched from the Gaza Strip into the southern Israeli town of Sderot, impacting near a school.
The deceased pilot has been identified as Major Ohad Cohen from Ramon Air Force Base.
