“Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, a fact and status quo that no one can change,” Chinese Minister of National Defense General Wei Fenghe said.

Taiwan has never been a participant in the U.S. Navy’s largest military exercise, the Rim of the Pacific or RIMPAC. Aggression by Communist China has prompted Congress to tell the Department of Defense to include Taiwan in the next RIMPAC as a show of solidarity with the island nation.

The most elite bastion of defense against China, the special forces of Taiwan are an established partner of American special operation units.
In a war with China, allied and partner commando units that U.S. special operation forces have helped stand up or train would be an advantage for the U.S. military.
A White House spokesperson subsequently said the president’s comments on Taiwan had not signaled a shift in policy.
