ATN LaserBallistics 1500 | First Look

To make a long shot on that trophy buck, you first need to know your distance to target. Along with other factors such as current environmental conditions, ballistics and implementing solid shooting techniques. But for now, we’re going to take a look at a new distance measuring tool from ATN. The LaserBallistics 1500. This competitively priced laser rangefinder includes a couple of innovative features not found in this market segment. And with an advertised range of 1500 meters, I can assure you that I’m cautiously optimistic. Over the past couple of years, I’ve entered the realm of long range shooting so any new kit that makes calculations easier is very welcome.

ATN offers a full line of Smart Scopes, night vision, thermal imaging and laser range finders. Unlike most laser range finders that only display distance to target, the LaserBallistics 1500 allows complex ballistic solutions to be displayed via Bluetooth to a smartphone app. Or displayed on the reticle of an ATN HD series rifle scope. These instant calculations greatly reduce the amount of time between ranging the target and making the shot. And anyone who has hunted at long range will agree that plotting the ballistic solution can sometimes take longer than the target presents itself. Leading to a frustrating day in the field. Additionally, a handy “Scan Mode” allows the shooter to hold the button down and scan with active ranging. Finally, “Fog Mode” is a helpful feature while operating in inclement weather.

Over the summer I plan to compare the ATN LaserBallistics 1500 to my proven Bushnell Elite 1 Mile CONX along with a Bushnell Tour V4 golf rangefinder. I’ve downloaded the ATN LRF app and took a quick look through the various features. Included are a few pre programed ballistic profiles for common calibers like; 22LR, .223 Remington, 30-06, .308 & .50 BMG. All stored profiles can be modified as well as new custom profiles created. Additionally, environmental information for your location can be input to further increase accuracy. Once paired with the LRF, a quick press of the button transfers the distance to the ballistic calculator and windage / elevation adjustments are displayed on the smartphone.

Stay tuned for a full review of the ATN LaserBallistic 1500 Rangefinder. In the meantime, follow this link to the ATN website and take a look at their full line of Smart HD Optics.
