He died while charging back into his home that had caught on fire in order to rescue his daughters. All three perished in the fire. Chief Cantrell died a hero by any standard. He was recently laid to rest at Arlington cemetery, buried with his daughters.

The Hope Mills Area Chamber of Commerce will be accepting donations of cash or checks through March 31 at its office at 5546 Trade St. on Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can also mail donations to the Hope Mills Area Chamber of Commerce at P.O. Box 451 Hope Mills, NC 28348.
Checks should be made out to the Hope Mills Area Chamber of Commerce with “donation Louise Cantrell” written in the memo line.
