A new History channel series focusing on SEAL Team Six is slated to begin filming in Wilmington, NC. Fortunately the series will have former Navy SEAL, Mitchell Hall, as a technical advisor. It has yet to be seen whether the accuracy of television drama will be more along the lines of “Zero Dark Thirty” or “Lone Survivor”, both of which Hall was involved with. Let’s hope they get it right.

WILMINGTON — “SIX,” a new military drama about Navy SEAL Team Six set to air on the History channel, will film in Wilmington, a studio spokesman confirmed Wednesday.

The eight-episode first season, produced by A+E Studios and The Weinstein Co., will follow the team, whose 2014 mission to eliminate a Taliban leader in Afghanistan goes awry when it uncovers a U.S. citizen working with the terrorists, according to a release.

The series was just announced Wednesday, but producers and local film executives have been in talks about bringing the project to Wilmington for several months.

“It is great to have them here,” said Bill Vassar, executive vice president of EUE/Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington, where “SIX” will open offices Monday. “By the end of the month, we will have two productions at the studio.”

Joining “SIX” on the lot will be TNT’s drama series “Good Behavior,” starring “Downton Abbey’s” Michelle Dockery, which announced in December its intent to shoot locally this spring.

Vassar said both productions are expected to be shooting by early March.

While not a documentary, “SIX” will be a scripted series that is inspired by real military missions. Wednesday’s release said the series will “capture what these SEALs do, their complex personal lives, and the life-and-death decisions they make.”

Retired U.S. Navy SEAL Mitchell Hall, who has worked on military films such as “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Lone Survivor,” will serve as the series’ technical adviser.
