Book Review: Three Sips of Gin by Tim Bax

“Three Sips of Gin” is many things. Not simply a collection of war stories or the usual memoir, Tim Bax’s recounting of his own personal history reminded me more of James Corbett’s “Man Eaters of the Kumaon” or to some extent even Henning-Haslund Christensen’s “In Secret Mongolia“. This book was a pleasant surprise that, although […]

Taking a Closer Look at Cyber Covert Actions

Special thanks to Jeffrey Carr for writing this guest post and helping us take a closer look at covert action and cyber-espionage. -Jack As the U.S. government expands its cyber warfare capabilities including the development and use of offensive weapons, I thought it would be valuable to look at the process of planning and getting […]

SOFREP National Security Roundup

These MEK goons that the CIA is training on American soil are bad news.  JSOC shouldn’t be touching this project with a ten foot barge pole.  Read up on Brandon’s opinion piece that follows up on the breaking news from Seymour Hersh in the New Yorker. Since the OBL raid there has been lots of […]

Rare footage of LRRPs in Vietnam:

Cyber-Terrorism: Pump Your Brakes

Have Submachine gun laptop, will travel While I believe that Brandon is directionally correct with his previous article on SOCOM’s lack of emphasis on cyber-terrorism, and I’ve tried to tip off our readers to emerging threats such as Duqu, I also want to take a few moments to cover the other side of this story.  […]

Ranger History: The Ranger Book

One of the cool things about being a writer for SOFREP is all the interesting people you get to talk to. Such was the case when I made contact with the LRRP/Ranger community of Vietnam veterans recently. I read all of their books as a kid, which was what inspired me to join the Army […]
