Update (Aug. 4, 2016 09:30 EST): During a press release (see the video below), police stated that the attacker appeared to have been suffering from “mental health issues” and selected people randomly to attack. The police said the investigation is still ongoing but they do not think this is an act of terrorism. The man police arrested has been identified as a 19-year-old of Somali origin who is a Norwegian national. The deceased woman’s name still has not been released but she has been identified as a 60-year-old American. The other victims’ nationalities have also been identified as British, Australian, Israeli, and American.


A 19-year-old man was detained after killing one and wounding five others with a knife in London’s Russell Square at approximately 10:30 local time. According to the Telegraph, a 60-year-old woman was treated on scene but died of her injuries before she could be transported to the hospital. Police said that they are not ruling out terrorism at this time. More details about the suspect or the conditions of those wounded are unknown at this time.
