I began to suspect that things were going off the tracks years ago when U.S. military recruiting commercials started featuring humanitarian aid just as prominently as their traditional emphasis on combat. It seemed as if the progressive agenda that was pervading our country was also imminent for our beloved military. It is now official: The progressive agenda isn’t just knocking on the military’s door, it kicked it in. According to the Washington Times,

The Pentagon is ordering the top brass to incorporate climate change into virtually everything they do, from testing weapons to training troops to war planning to joint exercises with allies.

A new directive’s theme: The U.S. Armed Forces must show “resilience” and beat back the threat based on “actionable science.”

It says the military will not be able to maintain effectiveness unless the directive is followed. It orders the establishment of a new layer of bureaucracy — a wide array of “climate change boards, councils and working groups” to infuse climate change into “programs, plans and policies.

So the military won’t be able to maintain effectiveness unless they go green? Wow, I’m glad they are looking out for our best interests! It is a good thing they let us know so we could avoid total disaster.

Does anyone remember how difficult it often was to get things done in the military once a request left the small-unit level? The red tape is apparently going to roll downhill to small units in the near future. And don’t you dare challenge the rationale behind the shift in priority for the military, or you’ll be labeled a “denier,” and that wouldn’t look good when it comes time for promotion. The Washington Times article adds,

The DoD must be able to adapt current and future operations to address the impacts of climate change in order to maintain an effective and efficient U.S. military. Mission planning and execution must include anticipating and managing any risks that develop as a result of climate change to build resilience.

There is a saying that goes, “There are no black soldiers and there are no white soldiers. We’re all green.” The term “green” has now taken on a new meaning. Training to close with and kill the enemy is now going to require we don’t leave behind as large a carbon footprint in the process. As if the men and women who serve in the armed forces need more to live in fear of, the list of politically correct landmines that service members must now tiptoe around with the new “green” directive includes:

  • Weapons buying and testing “across the life cycle of weapons systems, platforms, and equipment”
  • Training ranges and capabilities
  • Defense intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance
  • Defense education and training
  • Combatant commander joint training with allies to “assess the risks to U.S. security interests posed by climate change”
  • Joint Chiefs of Staff collaboration “with allies and partners to optimize joint exercises and war games including factors contributing to geopolitical and socioeconomic instability”

You see, we don’t need to place an emphasis on national security and global stability against our enemies, because our true enemy is global warming. We spend billions of dollars a year on equipping our men and women in the armed services, and we are getting ready to spend a whole lot more on making sure that the equipment is in compliance with the global-warming agenda.

Years ago, when I was in the military, if you told me things would become more inefficient I would have said you were crazy. But you would have been right.
