Most of what was in this report had already been widely known and discussed.

Also interesting to note that the Oversight Committee appears to not provide any oversight at all, just deal with the problem after it breaks in the media. The politicians also appear to be great at the political grandstanding that happens in the media afterwards.

The report states that the C.I.A. never produced an accurate count or list of those it had detained or subjected to brutal interrogation techniques.”-Senate Intelligence Committee

Any real oversight would have caught problems within the CIA and NSA before they turned into large scale issues.

Important Questions To Think About

  • How can we improve government oversight in the future to avoid massive oversteps by agencies like the NSA (spying on Americans) and CIA?
  • How and what (interrogation) techniques actually work? In our experience (we’ve been tortured in SERE school) torture for actionalble intelligence doesn’t produce reliable information.
  • What is going to be done to hold people accountable? Just another report with bad things and back to work?
