All of us are appalled at the recent act of vandalism that destroyed the Lt. Michael P. Murphy memorial in Suffolk County, New York. However, we are pleased to read that an arrest has been made in this case and others have stepped forward to donate to repair the memorial. We here at SOFREP.com want to be of help as well, and we would like the assistance of our readership in doing so.  The Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation provides college scholarships to worthy individuals. As we quote from their website:

The LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation was started in 2007 by Michael’s parents Dan and Maureen and Michael’s brother John.  Michael was an avid reader and felt that education was key, in fact his favorite saying was “Education will set you free”.  That is why the Murphy Family used their own funds to start the Foundation.

The Foundation Board started with Family and now seats nine members consisting of Dan, Maureen and John Murphy as well as other close family and friends committed to keeping Michael’s life, service, sacrifice and legacy alive as well as that of his SEAL teammates.

From it’s humbled and honored beginnings of awarding one scholarship a year, the Foundation now awards 18 scholarships. The LT Michael Murphy Foundation 2016 Scholarships that were issued are as follows; Eight scholarships to Crew or family members of the Crew of the USS MICHAEL MURPHY DDG112; One scholarship issued through the Suffolk Federal Credit Union; Two scholarships issued through Mike’s High School Alma Mater Patchogue-Medford; Three scholarships awarded to graduating members of the LT Michael Murphy Sea Cadets; One scholarship to send ten Penn State ROTC students to attend the Veteran’s Conference and LT Michael Murphy Valor Award; One scholarship issued through the Purple Heart Association; One scholarship issued through Mike’s college Alma Mater Penn State; and one scholarship issued through Shoreham Wading River High School.”

We have begun a fundraising raffle with the cooperation and support of the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation, which has donated a couple of items while Crate Club has generously provided the contents of an Operator Crate’s contents for the prize. The fundraising goal is $5,000. The link for the raffle is below, so please check it out — contribute if you can and share the link with others. From all of us here at SOFREP, thank you.
