There are any number of reasons why you might want to talk to a stranger without giving out your own cell number.  Well, now, there’s an app for that.

Burner is a $1.99 app by Ad Hoc Labs, which provides a temporary phone number for both voice and text.  One may use this number as long as it is useful.  When no longer needed, you can delete it with a single click.

Criminals have often used multiple disposable cells to disrupt phone taps.  This app won’t help them much, but for legal users, it provides a convenient way to keep your privacy from someone (provided they are not law enforcement who can subpoena the Apple store).

Burner is currently available now in the Apple App Store and costs $1.99, which includes enough credits to create one short-duration Burner line. Additional credits can be acquired through in-app purchases.
