This week, Iraqi police stopped a 15-year-old suicide bomber before he made it to his intended target, a Shia mosque in Kirkuk. In the footage, you will see the Iraqi police strip the shirt off of the boy and cut the suicide belt off. Later the bomb is detonated after the boy is taken into custody. Islamic State has used children in the past to carry out attacks. According to Najmaldin Karim, the governor of Kirkuk Governorate,
“He was captured before he reached his destination, which was a Shia mosque. The security guards noticed there was something wrong, especially that there was another suicide attack a bit earlier, and they captured him.”
Children and women are appealing to use as suicide bombers because they can be easier to manipulate and they are able to get closer to the targets than men as they draw less suspicion. However, in this case, it seems like the body language and behavior gave away this teenagers intent.
