The new CH-53K King Stallion helicopter will be replacing the CH-53E Super Stallion, which has been used by the U.S. military since 1980.
Although the recent CH-53E crashes in Hawaii have not yet been tied to a particular cause, it appears that some commanders have safety concerns with the older models. Between May and September 2014 alone, there were 18 deaths as a result of 13 different aviation accidents.
Something needed to be done, so let’s hope that the CH-53K is the solution.
