Gatorz Eyewear: Eye protection for skydiving

The team of guys here at the Loadout Room have all put the Gatorz Eyewear to the test with everything from skydiving, to downhill skiing to shooting and running. Here is what one of our Active Duty Special Operations writers has to say about Gatorz: “The frame can be custom fit by slowly bending the heat-treated metal to contour […]

Blue Force Gear Ten-Speed Pistol Pouch: Optimized retention and greater durability

Blue Force Gear’s reputation for innovating and creating gear is one unsurpassed by most companies. Their gear is well-known for a reason and the choice of the United States military and police officers around the country. The Ten Speed Pistol Pouch is a small, simple piece of gear that it perfect for most load outs. Like most of […]

CTS Targets | Range-ready steel

A while ago I started penciling in the idea for an article titled “the expectations of accuracy”.  Without diving all the way in, it’s all about defining your acceptable level of accuracy in training to match your required level of accuracy in the real world.  If you need to hit the vitals on a deer […]

The ESEE 4 | Not the best survival knife, but a damn good one!

I wiped my brow and looked at my students going through S-V80A, more commonly known as SERE training or Survival school. It was a bitter, cold afternoon in mid-February, the snow was a minimum 4 feet deep and we had pulled into camp several hours before for our first day of Survival training in the field. I […]

Spyderco UK Penknife: A lightweight drop point folder for carry abroad

It wouldn’t be the first time that Americans have been imprisoned in the UK, the most famous were the Americans that were imprisoned in Edinburgh Castle from 1776 to 1781 when the two nations were at war during the War of Independence; obviously imprisoned for not following the laws of the crown (Featured picture of […]

Triple Aught Design Bastion Hoodie: Quick look

I just received the Bastion Hoodie yesterday and was impressed the moment I put it on. Thanks to the new Polartec Power Fill insulation, the jacket retains all the warmth without all the bulk of traditional winter jackets. I wouldn’t say the jacket is an athletic fit, but there is no unnecessary bulk anywhere. More on the new […]

The SLIM minimalist wallet by Phil’s Wallets: Built to last in the USA

I’ve always got my eye out for a nice minimalist wallet, especially when made in the USA. When it comes to my EDC, the wallet is one of the most regularly used items, so it needs to be somewhat durable and stand up to repeated use. I’m really intrigued by smaller lesser known companies and what […]

Wicked grips and a journey with an old friend

Benjamin Franklin once made a comic with a snake separated into segments with a simple caption, “Join or Die.” I learned about this in Social Studies and it always stuck with me. When I had to option to choose a set of grips for my Wicked Grips review I spotted the Join or Die grips and I […]

Flowfold Minimalist Wallet | Initial impressions

Designed for the straight shooter with no interest in excess features, the Flowfold Minimalist wallet is both purposeful and versatile.It’s sleek outline fits seamlessly in the front pocket of your favorite jeans or tucked away in a day bag. If you find most walletscumbersome, this wallet embodies a simple and clean minimalist approach. The wallet is built with X-Ply™ technology; X-PLY is usedto create racing fabrics with incredible resistance to flex, elongation and degradation from U.V. so this wallet will stand against mothernature and has a lifetime warranty, not bad if you don’t ever need another wallet. I love to use this wallet for going to the beach and leaving behind my every-day leather wallet. It is great to carry just a card or two,some cash, and your ID for some adult frosty beverages. While the wallet is not water proof, it is water-resistant and will keep off adousing or two from those hooligans who want to throw water on you while you’re catching some rays. Another key feature is itscompact size and slim style; it will easily fit in your speedo, board shorts, or whatever you’re into. A few key concerns I have with the wallet is that the openness of the wallet allows sand and pocket lint to get everywhere, which canruin the magnetic strip on your cards and laminate on your ID. The other concern is that with many of the modern credit cards, thewallet is not RFID shielded and therefore, could lead to data leakage. I did some research on the X-Ply™ and while some of the fabricshave Aramid built in, and the design could lead to a Faraday cage construction. However, in testing the wallet it still allows for RFIDemissions. So, choose which cards you take with you when using this wallet. If your cards have these names on them Visa PayWave,MasterCard PayPass, American Express ExpressPay and Discover Zip, you should get a protection sleeve or a shielded wallet. Check out my post regarding the Navigator Passport Wallet. Features: Capacity for 6-8 credit cards and a few folded bills Dimensions – 4.2” x 2.75” x0.06” Weight – 12grams/.4oz. Material – High performance racing sailcloth with X-Ply™ technology and ballistic nylon webbing Made in the USA Lifetime warranty Water Resistant Vegan This article is courtesy of The Loadout Room.
