My favorite bang stick is the Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine gun. In the SEAL Teams, we called it the room broom because of its accuracy. I would love to own an MP7 and we’ll cover down on this in a Ranger second. First, some basic gun knowledge.

What Makes a Submachine Gun?

A submachine gun is a shoulder-fired, selective fire weapon that fires a pistol round.

Magazine or clip?

A magazine houses bullets and clips hold bullets together in machine gun belt-fed fashion.

Sorry gangsta rapper, a handgun has a magazine and not a clip. But hell, the terminology has been misused so much in movies and rap songs that maybe the language will change and I’ll be wrong in the next few years!

Never thought I’d write about transgender SEALs so who the hell knows! At this point in pandemic history, anything is possible.

The MP7

The HK MP7 is chambered for the HK 4.6×30mm armor-piercing cartridge. The round is unique and there’s no other gun firing it.

The cartridge was designed after NATO requested a submachine gun that could penetrate Kevlar body armor better than what existed at the time.

NATO’s requirements came as a response to the proliferation of cheap and effective body armor that had begun to make guns that fire pistol ammunition (for example Heckler & Koch’s earlier MP5 submachine gun) less effective.

The HK MP family is so accurate and lightweight I personally think they make a great secondary weapon system. When the world ends and we’re on the streets fighting door-to-door, I would use a longer range semi-auto with a 3-5X scope and the MP5 or MP7 (suppressed of course) as a great tight quarters gun, kevlar killer, and secondary backup. (My third line would be a handgun.)
